Looking to buy a drone but don’t want to pay thousands of dollars. Want quality footage but also want money in your wallet? Here is a comparison of the two best drones under $1000 for 2018.
The DJI’s Mavic Pro Platinum was released in August 2017 but has done so well DJI has continued to sell them. The Mavic Pro Platinum has a super portable design, solid construction, long range, and a gimbaled 4k camera. That being said, the Mavic Pro has a reasonable price considering all that the DJ’s Mavic Pro has to offer. The Mavic Pro Platinum is only $999 with a price reduction of $100 with the release of the second version of the Mavic Pro, the Mavic 2 Pro.
The DJI’s Mavic Air was released in January 2018. This drone is super portable, a 4k camera resolution, a 3-axis gimbal, and a SmartCapture feature. The DJI’s Mavic Air runs for only $799. This drone offers high-end flight performance that has been so successful that DJI has not had to make any updates or alterations since the Mavic Air was released.
Pros for the Mavic Air are that the Mavic Air is $200 less money than the Mavic Pro. The Mavic Air also has a slightly wider field of vision with a 85 degree compared to the Mavic Pro with a 78.8 degree field of vision. The Mavic Air also has SmartCapture which gives the user the ability to move the drones with just moving their hands.
Pros for the Mavic Pro are that the Mavic Pro has a long battery life with 30 minutes of flying time compared to the 21 minutes on the Mavic Air.
The without a doubt winner is the Mavic Air. The Mavic Air is just as good as the Mavic Pro Platinum with only a 7 minute difference in battery life. What makes up for a shorter battery life is that the Mavic Air is $200 cheaper than the Mavic Pro Platinum. I don’t believe an additional 7 minutes of battery life equals $200, thus giving you our winner, the Mavic Air.
